Dehradun, 9 Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck a deep emotional chord with the people of Uttarakhand during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the State’s Formation Day at the FRI grounds here today as his entire demeanour reflected the warmth and essence of the hills. Wearing a traditional Pahari cap and frequently switching to Garhwali and Kumaoni phrases in between his speech in Hindi, his speech resonated with local pride and affection.

Perhaps, for the first time in any of his public addresses, the Prime Minister spoke so extensively in the hill dialects of Garhwal and Kumaon. Though he has often used regional expressions in earlier visits to the state, never before has he woven such a long and heartfelt expression of Pahari speech into his address. This personal touch created a strong emotional connect between him and the people of Uttarakhand, who felt an even deeper bond with the Prime Minister this time.

Beginning his speech in his characteristic style, Modi greeted the audience with the words, “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand ka mera bhai-bandhu, didi, bhuli, dana-syano, aap sabu tai myaru namaskar. Pailag, sainwa sauli.” The crowd responded with thunderous applause as he switched to Garhwali once again midway through his speech. His words, “Paili pahadu ku chadhai, vikas ki baat kail rok di chai. Ab vakhi bati nai baat khulan lag li,” further drew enthusiastic cheers as he spoke of the state’s progress and determination.

In his address, the PM also referred to the state’s vibrant folk traditions, local festivals, and cultural events, highlighting Uttarakhand’s unique identity. He mentioned traditional celebrations such as Harela, Phuldei, and Bhitauli, and spoke of the Nanda Devi, Jauljibi, and Devidhura fairs, extending his remarks even to the Butter Festival of Dayara Bugyal. Modi also recalled his earlier journeys and tours to Uttarakhand during his speech.

Through his words and gestures, Modi’s entire appearance and speech reflected the flavour of the hills, blending respect for the region’s culture with a vision for its bright future. His Pahari touch, both in language and spirit, made his presence at the Silver Jubilee celebrations an unforgettable experience for the people of Uttarakhand.
