Dehradun, 29 Aug: In response to a series of complaints from the local residents, the Municipal Commissioner of Dehradun, Namami Bansal, initiated a thorough investigation into the sewerage works carried out by Uttarakhand Urban Sector Development Agency (UUSDA) in the ISBT and Banjarawala areas.
Acting on government orders, an inquiry committee led by the Municipal Commissioner conducted an on-site inspection today to review the quality and overall impact of the agency’s work, with officials from UUSDA present during the assessment.
It may be reminded here that the local residents from the related localities had been expressing huge inconvenience as a result of the ongoing works. The inspection brought to light that the agency, after completing its sewerage projects, had neglected to adequately restore and maintain the roads and the public spaces. This oversight has resulted in widespread inconvenience, with damaged infrastructure affecting not only everyday movement for the public but also impeding the operation of municipal waste collection vehicles.
Although certain parts of the work were deemed satisfactory, the Municipal Commissioner, keeping in mind the challenges presented by the current monsoon season and the difficulties faced by the public, today issued strict directives to the departmental officials. She also directed immediate submission of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), drawings, and other relevant documentation pertaining to the finished projects from the agency. She further instructed UUSDA to ensure that ongoing projects are completed methodically and in line with prescribed quality norms, stressing that the repair and maintenance of roads and public areas must be executed promptly after the conclusion of construction.
Emphasising that public convenience and unobstructed traffic flow remain paramount priorities for the Municipal Corporation, Bansal warned that failure to implement the required corrective measures within the given timeframe would result in the Corporation resorting to stringent action against the erring departments.
