Dehradun, 1 Jan: Uttarakhand has initiated the creation of a comprehensive volunteer database in preparation for the upcoming 38th National Games being hosted by the state. In view of the fact that Uttarakhand is hosting an increasing number of large-scale events, the need for an organised pool of trained volunteers is being felt. The Sports Department has taken proactive measures to address this requirement.
Currently, the registration process for volunteers is underway for the National Games. All registrants would receive a certificate of participation. Of these, 2,000 to 2,500 volunteers will be selected for specialised training. These selected individuals will also be issued a National Games volunteer certificate and provided travel and daily allowances (TA/DA). The selection process will commence upon the completion of registrations.
Officials from the Sports Department feel that building this volunteer database during the National Games would also serve as a valuable resource for future events. Uttarakhand has successfully hosted high-profile events like the Global Investors Summit and the G-20 Summit in recent years. In light of the growing demand for human resources to support such events, the creation of this database is seen as a strategic move.
The government officials claim that the public enthusiasm for volunteering at the National Games remains high, with over 30,000 individuals having registered so far. Interestingly, a significant number of the registrants are women and female students. Although only 2,000 to 2,500 volunteers will be required for the National Games, a much wider database will be ready for any future events in the state.
Senior IPS officer Amit Sinha, who also holds additional charge as Special Principal Secretary, Sports, as well as Chief Executive Officer of the National Games, today emphasised on the importance of volunteers in ensuring the success of the event. He stated that the volunteers would play a crucial role in managing various arrangements during the National Games. The aim of the government is to establish a robust volunteer database that includes detailed information about each individual. This would enable the government to effectively train and deploy volunteers, not just for the National Games but also for other future events. He asserted that once the database is complete, accessing skilled volunteers for any major event would become significantly easier.
