Pantnagar, 22 Sep: An All-India Network Programme on Natural Farming is being implemented under a project funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. The project has continued at the University since 2004-05. Under the project, an integrated organic farming model on one acre of land has been developed, which combines dairy, fishery, sugarcane-based cropping and vegetable production through organic methods. The objective is to provide small farmers with year-round employment and new avenues for income.
Today, Vice Chancellor Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan visited the Dr Norman E Borlaug Crop Research Centre, here. Project Officer Dr DK Singh informed him that this model has the potential to generate an annual income of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh from just one acre of land. The Vice-Chancellor appreciated this initiative and suggested the inclusion of poultry and goat farming in the model.
On this occasion, Director, Research, and Dean, College of Agriculture, Dr Subhash Chandra, Director, Communication, Dr JP Jaiswal, Joint Director Dr SK Verma, Co-Project Officer Santosh Kumar Yadav, along with several scientists, were also present.
