MUMBAI, 27 Sept: Nitin Gairola conducted a session on the natural world habitats or biomes for the 3rd graders at JBCN International School. JBCN is a premier school in Lower Parel, Mumbai that offers both Cambridge Assessment and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. Theirs in a progressive approach to education and focuses on critical thinking and learning beyond the classroom so that the students gain a wider perspective.

Nitin is from Dehradun and is on the verge of becoming the first person to travel to all the natural world biomes around the planet i.e. every Desert, Forest, Grassland and other eco-regions on Earth, besides every major country. Hence the children got a perspective from someone who has had first-hand experience. The kids were completely spellbound and asked a ton of questions, driven by their sheer inquisitiveness. In fact, it was nearly pandemonium in the classroom when he started showing wildlife photographs taken by him – from the Arctic to Antarctica and everywhere else in between.

Listening intently

JBCN has what they call an ‘EduCreative’ approach to learning and that’s why they had invited Nitin as a guest speaker for providing an outside-in view of the world and showing how children can help too in the conservation of the planet. His background in Earth Science also helped as he has National Geographic certifications in conservation, which is why the learning had a healthy mix of real-life experiences and theory.

JBCN students had many questions to ask

Nitin recalled how different and limited education was when he was a child as kids were not expected to study outside the curriculum books. Many used to just memorize lessons ‘by heart’ and jot them down on the exam paper to get good grades. Nitin is glad that his parents gifted him a thick encyclopaedia at the age of 6 and that is what got him to be curious about the world and much later to see nearly all of it. He is all for JBCN’s progressive style of education.

He has an upcoming session called ‘Around the World with Nitin Gairola’ at the Valley of Words Literature & Arts Festival in Dehradun on 25th October 2025 / Saturday, from 4:15 to 5 pm.
