Dehradun, 21 Apr: National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers met Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Lok Bhavan, here, today. These volunteers had represented the state at the Republic Day Parade held on 26 January 2026, at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Volunteers who were honoured by the President of India also met the Governor on this occasion.

Addressing the volunteers, the Governor said that being associated with the NSS at the national level with a spirit of service is both a matter of pride and responsibility for the youth. He noted that representing Uttarakhand at a globally significant platform like the Republic Day Parade is a highly prestigious achievement, watched not only across the country but around the world.

Praising the volunteers who received the President’s Award, he said that this honour is conferred upon only a select few out of millions of young individuals. He described it as not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for the state of Uttarakhand.

Motivating the youth, the Governor urged them to act as ‘brand ambassadors’ in society. He expressed hope that the volunteers would promote the core values of NSS—service, dedication, and social responsibility—and contribute actively to nation-building. He called upon the youth to remain committed to their goals and become a source of inspiration for positive change in society.

On this occasion, Special Principal Secretary Amit Sinha, NSS Regional Director Samardeep Saxena, State NSS Officer Sunaina Rawat, and others were among those present.
