Obtaining a degree is an achievement; also beginning of new responsibilities: Gov

8th Convocation of VMSB U’khand University held

Dehradun, 10 Dec: The Chancellor/Governor, Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was the Chief Guest at the 8th Convocation of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, here, today.

During the ceremony, 5387 students were awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and 43 students received medals. The Governor also launched the digital degrees for all students on DigiLocker. Additionally, 24 research scholars were honoured with PhD degrees.

On this occasion, Dr Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar, a pioneer in Indian computer science and the father of supercomputing, was conferred an honorary Doctor of Literature (D Litt) degree, and Arvind Kumar Gupta, popularly known as “Toyman of India”, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) degree.

In his convocation address, the Governor commended the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the students, emphasising that obtaining a degree is not only an achievement but the beginning of new responsibilities. He stated that new opportunities have now opened for the graduates, and wherever they go, they should contribute with dedication and commitment to the welfare of the nation and society.

The Governor also highlighted India’s rapidly changing global role, mentioning that India is emerging as a major youth power in the world. Indian youth are leading in various fields, with over 1.25 lakh startups across the country. Young people from small towns and villages are making a global impact in sports, science, technology, and business, showing that India’s youth is capable of taking risks and facing challenges.

The Governor said that the future of the country lies in the hands of the youth, whose energy, speed, and skills will shape a new India. He expressed confidence that today’s youth will realise the vision of a developed India with their innovation and dedication.

He urged students to gain proficiency in modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, and Metaverse, stating that these technologies could bring revolutionary changes in education, social, and economic sectors.

Technical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to work with integrity and positivity in whatever field they pursue. He also motivated them to believe that no goal is impossible for them, given their enthusiasm and talent.

During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Omkar Singh, presented the progress report, mentioning the university’s initiatives to ensure transparency and accountability through technological innovations.

Present at the ceremony were Technical Education Secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Prof Dinesh Chandra Shastri, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Open University, Prof OPS Negi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Ayurveda University, Prof Arun Kumar Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar, Prof Parvinder Kaushal, and University Registrar Prof Satendra Singh, along with the students.
