Dehradun, 15 Mar: Officers from the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, on a visit to Uttarakhand, called on Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Wednesday.
The team comprised 18 officers from the armed forces, civil services and foreign officials. This team is on a tour of Uttarakhand from 13 to 17 March and will visit the tourism and other departments here.
Governor Singh welcomed all the officers to Uttarakhand. He said that he was also in the National Defence College in 2008. The institute has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence over the years. It is dedicated to the intellectual development and strategic elevation of senior officers selected from abroad with the Armed Forces and Civil Services for higher leadership positions and responsibilities.
While sharing his mission and vision with the officers, the Governor said that Uttarakhand has unlimited possibilities in every sector. He reminded that Uttarakhand is also the land of yoga. People from all over the world visit to learn and practice yoga. Along with this, better work is being done by the people in the field of agriculture and horticulture, as well as natural and organic agriculture. Uttarakhand has more than 17 percent forest area and invaluable forest wealth.
The Governor added that Uttarakhand, a tourism-friendly state, is a favorite destination particularly during the Chardham Yatra as well as Kumbh Mela and Kanwar Yatra. Lakhs of people come here every year for spiritual and adventure tourism as well as jungle safaris. Along with wellness, yoga, ayurveda, marma activities, work is being done on eco-tourism.
National Defence College Senior Director Priyank Bharti, and Secretary to Governor Ravinath Raman were also present on this occasion.
