Dehradun, 17 Jun: In a pioneering initiative, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the holding of a free health camp for journalists and their families in Dehradun, today, reinforcing his commitment to their well-being.

Jointly arranged by the Health and Information Departments, the camp provided over 350 media professionals and their kin with specialised health check-ups. Acting on Dhami’s directives, the event was held at the Information Directorate complex on Ring Road, with senior doctors from the Doon Medical College conducting medical examinations and consultations. Facilities for pathology tests and the issuance of ABHA IDs were also set up on-site.

Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar and Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari inaugurated the camp. Dr Kumar acknowledged the demanding schedules of journalists, emphasising that the initiative offered a convenient platform for them to access expert medical advice. Tiwari assured that similar camps would be organised periodically, reflecting Chief Minister Dhami’s sustained efforts to support media professionals.

Director, Medical Education, Dr Ashutosh Sayana detailed the involvement of senior doctors from various specialities, including cardiology, ophthalmology, gynaecology, psychiatry, and neurosurgery, along with paramedical staff. Dr Sayana confirmed that over 350 journalists and their families were screened, with many discovering undiagnosed health issues such as sugar imbalance and blood pressure irregularities, for which they received immediate consultation and medication.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the CM commented that the media personnel are constantly on the move, often struggling to prioritise their health. This special health camp aims to bridge that gap. He asserted that the government would continue to hold such camps periodically to ensure journalists receive ongoing health benefits.
