Dehradun, 28 May: To ensure the smooth functioning of the newly established Centre for Hindu Studies at Doon University, here, Prof HC Purohit, Dean of the School of Management, and Dean, Students’ Welfare, has been appointed as its Coordinator. Starting at postgraduate-level teaching and learning of MA in Hindu Studies will commence under this Centre from this session.
In an official communication, the university has directed Prof Purohit to lead all necessary activities for the establishment and smooth functioning of the Centre, including the development of the syllabus, curriculum and completion of required regulatory procedures in a timely manner.
Upon being appointed as the Coordinator, Prof Purohit stated that this Centre would be established as a flagship initiative of the State Government. To design the MA Hindu Studies programme to be offered under the Centre, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, has constituted a committee of senior academicians and subject experts. This committee includes eminent scholar and former Professor of Delhi University, and former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, Prof Girishwar Mishra; former Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Dr Sudha Rani Pandey; Professor, Sanskrit, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Prof Sadashiv Kumar Dwivedi, Head of the Sanskrit Department at Delhi University, Prof Omnath Bimali; and Coordinator of the Centre for Hindu Studies at Delhi University, Prof Prerna Malhotra.
Prof Purohit disclosed that while several virtual meetings with experts have already been held regarding the establishment of this Centre, a final in-person meeting is proposed to be held at Doon University on 3 June, under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor. In this meeting, the final structure of the two-year (four semester) MA, Hindu Studies Syllabus and curriculum will be finalised. He added that this curriculum will support the teaching of provisions related to the Indian Knowledge System, as outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
