Dehradun, 28 May: In a significant move to tackle the parking crisis in Nainital, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has temporarily allotted the heritage Metropole Hotel complex, designated as “enemy property”, to the Uttarakhand government for use as a parking facility. This arrangement will remain in effect until further orders.
It may be recalled that, in this regard, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had actively pursued the matter, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to allow the open space within the Metropole Hotel complex for parking, citing the worsening parking shortage in the popular tourist destination.
Responding to the request, the Union Home Ministry has issued directives, facilitating the temporary allocation of the property. This decision is expected to ease congestion, benefiting both tourists and residents, and improving overall traffic management in the hill station.
Expressing his gratitude, the CM has thanked Union Home Minister Shah, emphasising that this decision would significantly help in addressing Nainital’s persistent parking challenges.
