DEHRADUN, 5 Apr: As had been indicated several times in past few months, senior IAS officer Radha Raturi who has just retired as Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, has been appointed as Chief Information Commissioner of Uttarakhand.

Orders to this effect have been issued under signatures of Secretary General Administration, Vinod Kumar Suman. The appointment will remain valid till a period of 3 years or till the time, Raturi attains age of 65 years.

It may be recalled that the post of Chief Information Commissioner has been lying vacant since May last year. Last month, following retirement of Information Commissioner Vipin Chandra on May 3, the Commission was left with just one Information Commissioner in form of Yogesh Bhatt and all the hearings had to be halted. A few days ago, former IPS officer DS Kunwar was appointed as the State Information Commissioner, thus making it possible to resume hearings. Now the Commission has get strengthened once again with the appointment of Radha Raturi as Chief Information Commissioner though several posts of Information Commissioner lie vacant still. It may also be pertinent to remind here that with the exception of Anil Chandra Punetha, all other Chief Information Commissioners in Uttarakhand have been retired or retiring Chief Secretaries of the state only.
