Dehradun, 3 Dec: National Pollution Control Day was observed on 2 December at Gandhi Park, here, during which a rally was held by students and members of various organisations of the town. It was held under the aegis of the Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan.
All assembled at the gate, where speakers emphasised the importance of the day and described the measures needed to control pollution. Sushil Tyagi explained the purpose of holding this rally. Representatives from different organisations put across their points of view, which included how the flying dust and smoke on the roads from vehicles and other machinery, pollution created by fireworks held during not only festivals but different functions to celebrate occasions like marriages, etc., generated pollution. Steps on reducing pollution, such as planting trees while celebrating all auspicious occasions, were mentioned.
Those who spoke on the occasion included Jitendra Dandona, Arif Khan, Bharat Sharma, CP Singh, Bishambar Nath Bajaj, Col Manhas, PD Gupta, Arvind Gupta, SP Chauhan, Yashveer Arya, Dinesh Bhandari and others. Winding up the discussion, Brig KG Behl (Retd), President, Sanyukta Nagrik Sangathan, advised students to pursue what the speakers had said. He told students that, in order to keep the school premises clean, they must keep a paper envelope in the bag in which they should keep the waste of whatever they eat and at the end of the day throw it into the dustbin.
They went around the park in a rally to create awareness amongst the people and the importance of the day.
