Dehradun, 17 Apr: BJP leader Ravindra Jugran stated today that he had waited for a week to hear reactions from all political parties and is now presenting his own response. He strongly condemned the recent statement made by Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar during the DAV PG College student union event, where the MLA reportedly said, “Where we stand, we are greater than the government.” Jugran termed this remark an insult to the 12 million people of Uttarakhand.
He said that the people of Uttarakhand have democratically elected the government, and the manner, tone, and body language in which the MLA delivered the statement appeared domineering and unruly. According to him, it also seemed to challenge law and order as well as the administrative system.
Jugran further added that such unparliamentary, undemocratic, uncivil language — reflecting arrogance, ego, and a degrading culture—cannot be tolerated in any democratic system or civilised society.
He urged all political parties, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to take cognisance of the matter and initiate appropriate constitutional action. He also suggested that the Speaker should arrange for proper guidance or training for such legislators by experienced parliamentary experts, to educate them on parliamentary traditions, language, procedures, ethics, conduct, values, and decorum.
