Rural roads be opened on priority: Vinod Kumar Suman

Secy Disaster Management takes stock of situation in wake of continuous rains

Dehradun, 17 Sep: Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, reached the State Emergency Operations Centre at USDMA and took stock of the situation in all the districts in view of the continuous rains across the state. During this, he sought information about the water levels in various rivers, about the roads and highways blocked due to landslides and the ongoing rains in the state.

It may be recalled that yesterday, Chief Minister had also reached the State Emergency Operations Centre to review the disaster situation in the state. Along with him, Suman was also present in the review meeting. The CM had yesterday directed all the District Magistrates to remain on high alert mode. He had instructed Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman to coordinate with all the District Magistrates and deal with any disaster situation effectively.

Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman reached the control room and discussed in detail with the experts and nodal officers of USDMA the condition of damaged roads, electricity, water as well as travel routes due to rain. He directed all the nodal officers posted in the control room to exchange information related to their respective departments in a timely manner.

Suman also instructed the PWD officials to open the closed rural roads on priority as soon as possible. He said that due to the closure of rural roads, the supply of essential commodities to the villages gets affected, hence it is necessary to open them on priority basis.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Executive Officer Administration Anand Swaroop, Additional Chief Executive Officer Implementation DIG Rajkumar Negi, Finance Controller Abhishek Anand, Joint Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Obaidullah Ansari, USDMA experts DD Dalakoti, Manish Bhagat, Hemant Bisht, Dr Pooja Rana, Rohit Kumar, Dr Vedika Pant, Tandrila Sarkar, Jessica Terron were amongst those present.

Suman directs detailed study of disasters and relief operations during this monsoon

Dehradun, 14 Sep: Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, has instructed the District Disaster Management Officers (DDMA officers) to conduct a detailed study of the disasters that occurred during this monsoon season. He observed that while this year commendable relief and rescue work has been done by various agencies, but it is also necessary to evaluate the shortcomings that remain  so that  better planning and execution can be ensured in the future.

This was also shared that apart from Kedarnath temple, now 15 more places are being monitored live from the State Emergency Operation Centre located at USDMA. USDMA system expert Hemant Bisht said that these include the back side of Kedarnath temple, Bhairav Bridge, Rudrapoint, Lincholi, Bhimbali, Jungle Chatti, Shuttle Bridge, Munkatiya, Gaurikund, Sonprayag etc. He said that these areas are being monitored directly from the control room located at USDMA through CCTV cameras.
