DEHRADUN, 29 Mar: The spirit of competition and camaraderie came alive at Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBSU) as it hosted its Annual Athletic Meet with great fervour and enthusiasm on Saturday. The day commenced with a spirited 5 km marathon, officially flagged off by Veerma Ram, Director of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology, setting an energetic tone for the day.
The event was inaugurated with a ceremonial felicitation of Sardarni Harinder Pal Kaur, Member of the Board of Governors, SBSU, as Guest of Honour. Capt Ramneek Kaur graced the occasion as the special guest, alongside. J Kumar, professor and Vice-Chancellor of SBSU. Tricolor balloons soaring into the sky marked the grand opening, followed by Capt. Kaur officially declaring the meet open.
A thrilling display of athletic prowess unfolded as the university’s four houses — Ajit, Fateh, Jujhar, and Zorawar — competed fiercely. Records were shattered, and the spirit of sportsmanship resonated across the grounds, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of SP Singh, Chairman of Gaurav Bharati Shiksha Sansthan, as the Chief Guest, and Gaurav Deep Singh, president of SBSU, as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor J Kumar delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the significance of extracurricular activities in ensuring the holistic development of students. Gaurav Deep Singh commended the participants and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors, while SP Singh applauded the winners and encouraged all students to strive for excellence both in academics and athletics.
Adding a creative flair to the day, the Publication and Creative Writing Society organized an Inter House Creative Writing Competition. Enthusiastic participation was evident across categories like Story Writing, Blog Writing, Poetry, Mythology, and Caricature. The winners in these categories were: Story (English): Ashish Kumar Kashyap, Jujhar House, Story Writing (Hindi) Aditi Maini Tripathi, Fateh House, Blog Writing (English): Gaurav Gusain, Zorawar House, Blog Writing (Hindi): Shikha Bisht, Ajit House, Poem (English):Prathivya Parashar, Jujhar House, Poem (Hindi): Anirudh Sinwal, Zorawar House, Mythology (English):.Riya Bharadwaj, Fateh House, Mythology (Hindi): Neelabh Verma, Zorawar House and Caricature: Neelabh Verma, Zorawar House.
In the highly anticipated 5 km marathon, the winners were Sandeep Negi, Zorawar House in the Boys’ category and Sunidhi Bharadwaj, Ajit House in the Girls’ category. The coveted Overall Best House trophy was awarded to Fateh House, bringing the day to a memorable conclusion.
The seamless coordination of the Annual Athletic Meet was managed by Mohd Ajmal, Convener of the Sports and Athletics Club, alongside Co-convener Deepanshu Rana and Capt Nalini Mehrishi. The Inter House Creative Writing Competition was led by C. Nithya Shanthi and her dedicated team. Nidhi Belwal skillfully anchored the event, maintaining a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the day. With vibrant energy, competitive spirit, and camaraderie on full display, SBSU’s Annual Athletic Meet was a resounding success, leaving participants and spectators with cherished memories.
