DEHRADUN, 13 Sept: The 109th Annual Speech and Prize Day—one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the school calendar—was held on Saturday at St Thomas’ College here.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was JA Kumar, an esteemed alumna of the institution and the current Principal of Carman Residential & Day School, Premnagar. She was warmly received by Principal RV Gardner, ex-MLA and subsequently introduced to the Board of Governors and the staff of St Thomas’ College.
The programme commenced with the Academic Procession, featuring the teaching staff adorned in their academic gowns. Kumar then distributed prizes to students in recognition of their outstanding achievements in academics, sports, and various extra-curricular activities.
Following the awards ceremony, the audience, comprising distinguished gathering of parents and guests such as GIG Mann, Lt Col Ashwin Pundir, K Khanna, VR Gardner, Col RK Manucha (Retd) and his wife, author Ratna Manucha others were treated to a vibrant and diverse variety entertainment programme.
The showstoppers of the variety entertainment programme were the Junior School English play “Aladdin”, and the Senior School Hindi play, “Hkksykjke dk tho”, Both the Hindi and English plays were immediate hits.
In a special segment, the staff of St Thomas’ College presented a moving English song in praise of the Almighty, reflecting the school’s spiritual ethos and unity. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
In her address, Chief Guest Kumar, commended the prize winners for their hard work and achievements, and congratulated the Principal, staff, and students for organizing a well-coordinated and memorable 109th Annual Speech and Prize Day. She expressed her admiration for the discipline, talent, and spirit demonstrated by the Thomasian community.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal. He expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest for her gracious presence and to the parents for their unwavering support in nurturing the students and contributing to the school’s mission of shaping responsible, well-rounded individuals for society.
