Dehradun, 23 Jun: The State Warehousing Corporation has significantly strengthened its storage infrastructure, raising the total storage capacity across the state to over 1.30 lakh metric tonnes. These warehouses are being used for large-scale, long-term scientific storage of food grains and fertilisers. This not only increases the Corporation’s revenue but also directly benefits local farmers and cultivators.
Under the leadership and guidance of the Minister of Cooperation, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, the Corporation has made remarkable progress towards self-reliance. Over the past few years, the Corporation has expanded storage facilities, providing farmers with reliable storage options while substantially enhancing its income. According to departmental officials, the Corporation now operates warehouses with a combined capacity of 1,31,550 metric tonnes. This includes major facilities at Rudrapur (10,486 MT), Gadarpur (16,081 MT), Gularbhoj (3,940 MT), Kichha (13,111 MT), Sitarganj (8,970 MT), Haldwani (New Mandi) (6,895 MT), Kamaluwaganja, Haldwani (16,470 MT), Almora (5,000 MT), Haridwar (5,222 MT), Vikasnagar (11,613 MT), and Nakraunda (10,172 MT).
Additionally, several warehouses are being operated on a rental basis, including facilities at Kashipur (5,000 MT), Ramnagar (2,500 MT), Sitarganj (7,090 MT), and Nanakmatta (9,000 MT). To meet the growing storage needs, Dr Rawat has approved the construction of five new modern warehouses with a combined capacity of 40,000 metric tonnes. These will be established in five districts: 10,000 MT each in Rishikesh and Haridwar, 5,000 MT each in Kotdwar and Tehri, and another 10,000 MT facility in the Rudrapur-Kashipur region of Kumaon division. This will enable large-scale storage of food grains and fertilisers, further increasing the Corporation’s income while providing essential storage support to farmers.
The Corporation also operates a pest control service, offering pest management at hotels, railway stations, banks, mills, and government institutions. The service generates fee-based revenue, contributing to the Corporation’s net income. Additionally, weighbridges set up at warehouses provide another source of income through the weighing of government, cooperative, and private grain transport vehicles.
According to officials, the Corporation has remained profitable over the past few years and is on track to further increase revenue through enhanced storage facilities and allied services.
“In recent years, the State Warehousing Corporation has taken a significant step towards self-reliance by achieving unprecedented growth in storage capacity. The Corporation’s capacity has now reached 1,31,550 metric tonnes, with five new warehouses of 40,000 metric tonnes under construction. This achievement marks a milestone in strengthening the cooperative sector of the state,” stated Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, Minister of Cooperation, Uttarakhand.
