Garhwal Post Bureau
Dehradun, 13 Jul: A large number of complainants’ woes were heard the Collectorate premises here today during the Samadhan Diwas. The Samadhan Diwas was organised under the directions of District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan and chaired by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) (Revenue) KK Mishra. The camp, held to hear public grievances and ensure their speedy resolution, continued for nearly four hours and, in all, recorded 176 complaints ranging from land disputes, illegal possession, encroachment, domestic violence, financial assistance and fee waivers.
The ADM dealt with most of the complaints on the spot itself, while serious complaints and those requiring investigation were referred to the departments concerned with clear instructions to ensure legal and time‑bound due action. Several distressing accounts of harassment of women and elderly citizens came to light during the hearing which prompted strict administrative response. A 65‑year‑old widow from Jeevangarh, Savitri Devi, accused her son and daughter‑in‑law of assault and illegal possession of her house, leading to immediate directions to the SDM Vikasnagar for firm action under the Maintenance Act. Similarly, senior citizen Naseem Chand’s complaint was handed over to the Municipal Corporation and Tehsildar for urgent inquiry.
In Sanjay Colony, widow Pooja Devi alleged that her sisters‑in‑law had occupied her house after her husband’s death, forcing her to live with her children at her parental home. The SDM Vikasnagar was directed to take swift action. Victims of domestic violence, including Tulsi Devi of Jogiwala and Phoolan Devi of Niranjanpur, reported assault and dowry harassment by their husbands, upon which police and administration were instructed to provide immediate assistance.
Several complaints were related to alleged land frauds and encroachment. A serious note was taken of these complaints and firm orders were issued in these cases. Anita Gupta of Kedarpuram alleged cheating in registry after her husband’s death, claiming that despite full payment the seller fraudulently retained the land in his own name. The matter was referred to the District Legal Services Authority. Complaints of illegal occupation of government land in Jhajhra and Kanharwala were sent to the BDO and SDM Doiwala with directions for measurement and report.
In Prempur Mafi, Tejaswini Lakshmi Bisht and others complained of not receiving possession despite purchase, leading to inquiry and due action orders for the SDM.
Various other kinds of concerns were also raised during the hearing. In one case, seizure of a house due to unpaid bank loan had resulted in the Anganwadi centre’s equipment being seized as well. In this case, the District Programme Officer was instructed to coordinate with the bank and restore the equipment immediately. One complainant asserted that delay in bridge construction on the Sheila Sher motor road was causing hardship to schoolchildren, prompting directions to the PMGSY Executive Engineer to expedite work and repair an alternative route in the meantime.
Further instructions were issued for preparing proposals under the Mineral Foundation Trust Fund for irrigation and pipeline schemes in mining‑affected areas of Fanar, Neenus, Mendrath and Punha Pokhari, as well as for the Tons river pumping plan in Kawakheda. The District Tourism Officer was directed to arrange cultural troupes for the forthcoming Ganayat and Dakhdaan fairs during the Shravan month.
