Nainital/Ramnagar, 31 May: Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was on a visit to Ramnagar on Wednesday. On reaching here, the office bearers of the Hotel Association welcomed him. In a local hotel, the Governor held a meeting with the office bearers of Hotel Association Ramnagar and discussed the challenges and problems being faced in the field of tourism and hotel business.
Lt-General Singh congratulated all the office bearers of the Hotel Association for their cooperation in the recently concluded G–20 programme. He said that the Hotel Association played an important role in this event. He said that the successful organisation of G–20 has established Ramnagar in the world tourism map. The Governor said that tourism business is the backbone of Uttarakhand’s economy. He said that the hotel industry has a big contribution in the development of the state. Due to this many people are getting employment. Every possible effort will be made to take it forward and everyone’s cooperation is needed in this.
During this, the office bearers of the association also apprised the Governor about various problems. The officials presented other suggestions and problems including better connectivity for Ramnagar and Corbett, expansion of Pantnagar airport and operation of Vande Bharat train for Kumaon. Apart from this, he also demanded the Governor to organize a tourism festival to attract tourists in Ramnagar area. The Governor said that in relation to all the problems and suggestions, efforts will be made to solve them by holding talks with the Union Ministers, including the Chief Minister and the Ministers of the State.
On this occasion, the Governor also discussed with the Deputy District Magistrate and Tourism Officer regarding the possibilities of expansion of tourism in Ramnagar. He praised all the officials for the work done in G–20.
On this occasion, Deputy District Magistrate Gaurav Chatwal, Tourism Officer Vijendra Pandey, Tehsildar BC Pant and office bearers of Hotel Association were present. Earlier, on reaching Ramnagar, Ramnagar MLA Diwan Singh Bisht welcomed the Governor.
