DEHRADUN, 21 Sept: In a move to initiate hospital volunteerism, former MP Tarun Vijay visited the State Mental Health Hospital in Selaqui and distributed fruits to all resident patients.
He had a discussion with doctors and staff also and promised a health check-up of patients with help from city doctors.
He said, “We need to inspire young college students to become involved in volunteerism to help patients. Many need something to be communicated to their relatives, or a little home-made food. Dehradun is a city of sensitivities and youth must have hearts that beat for the needy, destitute, abandoned patients who require a touch of love. That’s the best healing medicine.”
Tarun Vijay didn’t allow pictures to be taken with the inmates. He said there are hundreds of heart-rending stories to be heard. Many parents leave their children in hospital for treatment and never come back.
“More than anything, we need to provide a touch of love to these patients,” he added.
