Techno-Cultural Fest ‘Civil Utsav 2019’ concludes at UPES

Dehradun, 6 May: The three-day long extravaganza of the ‘Civil Fest 2019’ concluded successfully at the Bidholi campus of UPES, here. The fest was the 2nd Edition of the Technical Festival organised under the aegis of ‘Department of Health, Safety, Environment and Civil Engineering’ of the School of Engineering (SOE), UPES, annually under the umbrella of its Association of Civil Engineers Student Chapter (ACE). The Chapter had made its presence felt in a big way last year by organising the largest civil engineering tech-fest of Dehradun. The event witnessed over 30 events held under various categories viz. Technical, Techno-fun, Cultural, Skill Enhancement, online events, etc., with participation by over 800 students from various colleges and universities.
According to Arun Dhand, Sr Director-Public Affairs, UPES, the fest included Paper Presentations, Poster Competitions, Paintings, Advanced Workshops, Lecture Series, Talent Hunt Events and many other core events.
Students from Dev Bhoomi Institute of Technology (DBIT); Shivalik College of Engineering; Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, Uttaranchal University; Graphic Era University; Baba Farid Institute of Technology (BFIT); and Women Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand Technical University took part.
Anand Kumar Singh, the ‘Fest Chief Coordinator’, disclosed that the first phase activity of the event was held a day prior to its inauguration. All participants were required to cast their cubes according to their calculated mix design of concrete, which they had submitted earlier, under the ‘CAN-CREATE’ activity. The ‘Winner’ was decided later in the event after testing the strength of their cubes with machines.
Welcoming the participants and students to the festival at its inaugural session, Dr Suresh Kumar, Dean, SOE, congratulated the organising team for its diligence in planning and conducting the 3 day-long event. Conveying his best wishes, Dr Nihal Anwar Siddiqui, Head – HSE & Civil Engineering Department, motivated the students to learn from the competitor’s strengths.
Day-1 saw the participants make ships using polystyrene sheets and ice-cream sticks under ‘Bon Voyage’; an eye-catching activity featuring real life counter strike in ‘Laser Tag’; workshops for Advanced Excel & STAAD Foundation Design – in which all participants were presented certificates in appreciation of their dedication and diligence during the activity; the fun event of the day, ‘Dangal’, in which participants dressed in attractive costumes and pushed their opponents with all their might to score a victory; and the bridge making competition, ‘Instridge’. Day-2 began with the talent hunt competition ‘Pratibha’; views of the youth on all the spheres of life in ‘Visionary’; paper presentations on topics from civil, fire and safety engineering; quiz-competition, ‘Terramind’; and Poster presentations. Ending the day with a mesmerising performance were Rock Bands of various colleges in the ‘War Of Bands’.
A panel discussion on how to plan sustainable cities, ‘City for All, All for City’, was among the major highlights of the 3rdday. Senior experts from city-based municipal infrastructure viz. Dehradun Smart City Limited, MDDA, WWF, Uttarakhand Peyjal Nigam and the Builder’s Industry shared their knowledge and experience.
Announcing the ‘Winners’ at the valedictory function, Anand Kumar Singh declared the 1st Prize awardees – Anuj Singhal for ‘Can Create’; Ashish Bhatt for ‘Instridge’; T Tejaswini for‘Paper Presentation’ and Manaswini Naugain for ‘Poster Presentation’, along with others. The winners received certificates, prize money and other rewards. The ‘Fest Coordinator’ was Durga Prasad Pandey; ‘Faculty Support’ provided by Associate Professor Mukesh Dubey and Assistant Professor Mopi Vijay Kishore; the ‘Student Mentors’ was Twarit Basant, Dhruv Pratap Singh, ‘Student Coordinator’, and Ayush Sahu, the Chief Coordinator.
