Tribute paid to Paripoornanand Painuli

Dehradun, 23 Apr: The Abbas Tayabji Educational and Charitable Trust organised a condolence meeting at Tasmia Academy, here, to pay tribute to veteran Freedom Fighter and former Member of Parliament Paripoornanand Painuli, who breathed his last at the ONGC Hospital.
Dr S Farooq, National Vice President of the Trust, expressed his grief at the passing away of Paripoornanand Painuli, who was Secretary & Treasurer of the Abbas TayyebJi Educational and Charitable Trust. He said that his association with Painuli was long and close. Painuli was a great social worker who worked for girls’ education.
Chief Guest Brig KG Behl (Retd) said that Paripoornanand Painuli was a great national leader who joined the freedom movement at the age of 18 years. He said that it was a matter of pride that such a great national leader belonged to Uttarakhand.
Guest of Honour Lt Gen OP Kaushik (Retd) said that Painuli played a significant role in uniting the 33 hill states which subsequently constituted Himachal Pradesh. Such a great leader would never be forgotten.
Dr Madhu Sharma, Founder Member of the Trust and former Principal, MKP College, explained in detail the life and work of Paripoornanand Painuli.
On the occasion, scholarships were given to girl students for education & training and other activities concerning the uplift of non-creamy layer Muslims and other communities through this Trust.
Md Akbar Khan, President of the Uttarakhand Unit, proposed the vote of thanks. RK Bakhshi anchored the event. Painuli’s daughter Vijay Joshi thanked all for the respect paid to him. Other family members and several dignitaries of Dehradun such as Dr Aditya Arya, Dr IP Saxena, Dr GB Joshi, AS Bhatia, Uma Rani, d/o the late Mahavir Tyagi were present on the occasion.
