DEHRADUN, 8 Feb: Uttarakhand, so far, have won 60 medals in the 38th National Games including 13 golds, 22 silvers and 25 bronze.
The state’s sprint in the medals tally was noticed on Friday after winning three golds and two silvers in twe-kondo and football followed by 5 golds in modern pentathlon on Saturday.
On Saturday, the state’s players showcased brilliant performance acquiring 6 gold- 5 in modern pantathlon, 1 in lawn bowl and and 6 bronze- 2 in modern pentathlon, 2 in lawn bowl and 2 in athletics.
The state’s best performance before this was witnessed back in 2002, the 32nd National Games in Andhra Pradesh, the first after Uttarakhand’s formation where the state stood at 13th position with 10 medals. After which, with following National Games, the position only seemed to fall with being in 18th position in the 33rd National Games in 2007, Guwahati; 19th in the 20011’s 34th National Games in Jharkhand; 23rd in the 2014’s 35th National Games in Kerela; and 26th and 25th in the 36th and 37th National Games held in Gujarat and Goa, respectively.
However, it has definitely made a significant comeback at the 38th National Games where the state expects to win more medals in the upcoming days in athletics and more, making higher into the medal tally.
