Vigilance nabs Assistant Agriculture Officer while accepting bribe in Haridwar

Haridwar, 18 Aug: The Vigilance Establishment’s trap team today arrested Assistant Agriculture Officer Hariom Yadav red‑handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant in Khanpur development block of Haridwar district. The officer, son of late Lal Singh and resident of Pratapnagar, Najibabad Road, Kotdwar, Pauri Garhwal, was caught in a planned operation after verification of the complaint.

According to Vigilance officials, the complainant’s brother had applied for subsidy to purchase agricultural equipment. In order to push the subsidy file forward, Hariom Yadav allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance Establishment, which after confirming the allegations, laid a trap. Today, the team apprehended the officer while he was receiving the bribe amount.

Following the arrest, Vigilance officials began detailed interrogation of the accused and initiated further legal proceedings. The trap team is also examining evidence and related facts connected with the case. The arrest has triggered discussions across government departments about the ongoing campaign against bribery and corruption even as the government claims a firm resolve to act against corruption.
