Ranikhet, 3 Dec: Government PG College, Ranikhet, achieved an extraordinary milestone at the World Summit on Disaster Management (WSDM 2025) and the 20th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress, held from 28 to 30 November in Dehradun. As reflected in the official UCOST and WSDM documents, the prestigious platforms brought together global experts, senior scientists, academicians, and young researchers through a series of technical sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and scientific presentations.

A proud moment for the Himalayan region came as two B.Sc. 5th semester students—Jyoti and Tanisha—presented their research work, becoming the first girl students from a remote Government college of Kumaon to reach such a prominent global forum. Adding further prestige to the institution, Dr Nidhi Sharma, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, received the Young Scientist Award in the Oral Presentation category at the 20th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress 2025–2026, marking a remarkable academic achievement for the college.

UCOST District Coordinator (Almora), Dr Bharat Pandey, said that initiatives like the Disaster Management Summit, the State Science Congress, and the SHE for STEM outreach are transforming scientific exposure in rural Himalayan belts. Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the SHE for STEM team, he stated, “I sincerely thank Dr Darshana, Dr Bhuvan, Saurabh Joshi, and the entire SHE for STEM team for their outstanding efforts in empowering rural girls. Their initiatives have opened doors for young students from remote regions to step confidently on to national and global platforms.”

Dr Bharat added that Director General UCOST, Prof Durgesh Pant, has played a visionary role in promoting inclusivity, innovation, and equal scientific opportunity across Uttarakhand. “Prof Pant’s leadership ensures that even students from the hills receive the same exposure and encouragement as those in major academic hubs. This achievement from Ranikhet stands as a shining example of his vision becoming reality,” he noted.

Prof Pushpesh Pandey, Principal, Government P.G. College, Ranikhet, expressed immense pride, stating that the accomplishments of girl students and a young faculty member from a remote hill region have brought great honour to the college. Faculty members also shared that this landmark achievement will serve as an inspiration for many more students—especially girls—to pursue national-level research, scientific conferences, and STEM careers with renewed confidence and determination.
