DEHRADUN, 12 Jul: Dehradun is poised to address its longstanding parking challenges and traffic congestion soon through the launch of three automatic mechanical parking facilities. These facilities have been developed by the district administration as part of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s broader vision of a modern Uttarakhand on the initiative of District Magistrate Savin Bansal. The new installations include a system at Parade Ground accommodating 96 vehicles, another at the Tibetan Market with a capacity of 132 vehicles, and a third at Coronation Hospital for 18 vehicles. These technologically advanced structures are engineered to optimise limited urban spaces, with the added advantage of being relocatable if required.
Interestingly, the smart car facility at Coronation Hospital is already functional, enabling the hospital staff to utilise automated parking while freeing up ground-level space for patients and their attendants. Following rigorous testing and trial commissioning, these parking solutions are anticipated to substantially alleviate traffic bottlenecks within parts of the city. District Magistrate Savin Bansal has taken proactive steps to ensure smooth operations by appointing two technically trained operators for each facility. Moreover, vehicles parked at these sites will be insured against any damage, adding a layer of security and reassurance for users.
This initiative is regarded as a successful pilot project, with the potential for replication across other parts of Dehradun. Under the stewardship of the District Magistrate, the administration remains committed to translating the Chief Minister’s vision into reality. The Coronation Hospital facility has already been handed over for public use, while the installations at Tibetan Market and Parade Ground are likely to be formally inaugurated soon by the Chief Minister. Once dedicated to the public, these facilities are expected to greatly enhance parking accessibility and ease traffic pressures in certain congested zones.
With eyes set on future expansion, the district administration claims to be actively exploring possibilities for establishing similar automatic parking systems in additional locations. The move signifies a progressive shift in urban infrastructure, promising greater convenience and more efficient traffic management for the residents of Dehradun.
