7th Convocation: International students receive degrees from Uttaranchal University

Dehradun, 26 Jun: Uttaranchal University organised its Seventh Convocation Ceremony during which international students of several countries were awarded their degrees at the Swami Vivekanand Auditorium, today. The solemn and prestigious academic event marked a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward global engagement in higher education.

The Chief Guest at the ceremony was University President Jitendra Joshi. Also present was Anuradha Joshi, Vice Chairperson of Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies and Research, as the Guest of Honour. Others prominent members of the University leadership present included Vice President Ankita Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi, and Executive Director, Student Affairs & IT Services, Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi. Dean, Student Welfare, Prof (Dr) Kartikey, Directors, HODs and academic staff were also present at this academic event.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp to invoke the divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati.

A total of 35 international students from 10 countries were awarded degrees across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Students from Liberia, Nepal, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Namibia, South Sudan and Swaziland participated in the ceremony, showcasing the University’s growing international presence. Among them, 20 students graduated from undergraduate courses, while 15 students completed their postgraduate studies. The graduating cohort comprised 21 male and 14 female students.

The gold medal for academic excellence was conferred upon Ahmed Ayuba Dawa from Nigeria, student of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology program, as recognition of his outstanding performance. Honoured for his dedication and consistent academic excellence, he expressed immense happiness and gratitude upon receiving his degree and the prestigious award, calling it a proud moment for himself. He said that the education received in India will be a booster for him to serve his country in the field of healthcare sector. He also acknowledged the support of the University’s learning environment in shaping his success and stated that he now looks forward to serving his nation by applying his knowledge and skills in the medical field.

KC Sayana received her 4 years degree Bachelor’s in Science Honours with Research.

The convocation procession was led by Registrar Dr Anuj Kumar Rana. As the dignitaries entered the auditorium in ceremonial attire, the environment was imbued with the recitation of Vedic mantras, reflecting India’s profound cultural heritage and enduring Vedic traditions. This distinctive cultural experience made a significant impression on the international students, many of whom conveyed their appreciation for the harmonious integration of academic excellence and cultural depth during their time at the University.

Addressing the gathering, President Jitendra Joshi underscored India’s growing stature as a global centre for quality education. He stated that the nation’s progressive educational policies, international recognition, and inclusive academic environment have positioned it as a preferred destination for students worldwide. He further stated that the University presently accommodates students from more than 17 countries, enrolled in various Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs.  Guest of Honour Anuradha Joshi, in her address, encouraged the graduating students to uphold and carry forward the core values of knowledge, integrity, and global citizenship as they step into their professional lives. Emphasising the University’s growing global engagement, she encouraged students to fulfil their role as responsible individuals who can contribute meaningfully to societal well-being.  Vice-President Ankita Joshi extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating students, acknowledging their hard work and perseverance. She further expressed confidence that the graduates would achieve great heights and contribute positively to society, thereby bringing pride to the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor delivered the welcome address and presented the University report, followed by administering the oath to the graduating students. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted that the University currently offers more than 100 courses across diverse disciplines, reflecting its strong commitment to multidisciplinary education. He emphasised that this academic framework enables students to develop a broad perspective, equipping them with the skills and adaptability needed in an increasingly interconnected and dynamic global environment. He also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and research, while ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The ceremony was compered by Dr Madhu Kirola Head, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering, and concluded on a celebratory note, with heartfelt congratulations to all graduating students.
