Mussoorie, 15 Apr: Councillor Geeta Kumai stated today that residents living in the Mall Road area are facing difficulties in accessing their own homes during restricted hours. Local residents are being stopped at barriers, which is adversely affecting their daily lives. A proposal regarding this matter was submitted as early as 2004 yet, to this day, no concrete action has been taken. She has demanded that local residents be issued passes allowing them entry at least once during the restricted hours. She further noted that the boundary wall of the Garg Dispensary—constructed by the Municipal Council—has collapsed, compromising security and heightening the risk of encroachment. She has urged the municipal administration to undertake the immediate repair and reconstruction of the damaged boundary wall at the Garg Dispensary.

The Councillor also expressed her displeasure regarding the town’s sanitation system. She pointed out that large dustbins at several public locations were replaced with smaller ones, and subsequently, dustbins were removed entirely from many areas. This is causing significant difficulties in waste disposal, the impact of which is directly felt by both tourists and local citizens alike. Geeta Kumai has demanded that the administration install an adequate number of dustbins along Camel’s Back Road (Hawa Ghar), in parks, markets, and other tourist attractions; review and reinstate the dustbins that were previously removed; install awareness boards at prominent locations bearing messages such as “Please Dispose of Waste in the Dustbin”; and ensure arrangements for the regular cleaning of dustbins and the timely collection of waste.

The Councillor asserted that these issues are not merely limited to local convenience but are directly linked to Mussoorie’s public image, environment, and tourism sector.
