Mussoorie, 21 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today conducted an on-site inspection of the Bailey bridge currently under construction on the Mussoorie-Dehradun route and directed officials to expedite the work. He explicitly stated that, in view of the upcoming tourism season and the Char Dham Yatra, all major routes must be repaired in a timely manner to ensure that travellers and tourists do not face any inconvenience.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister directed officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway Authority to construct a second Bailey bridge parallel to the one currently being built on the Mussoorie-Dehradun route. This will facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and provide relief from the problem of traffic congestion.
Speaking to the media, CM Dhami explained that traffic movement on the route had been facing difficulties due to a damaged bridge near the Shiv Temple; consequently, a temporary Bailey bridge had been constructed. Now, a second Bailey bridge is also being constructed rapidly and is expected to be completed within the next 2 to 3 days.
The Chief Minister added that the construction work for the permanent (concrete) bridge is also underway, with a target set for its completion within the next 2 to 3 months. This will make traffic movement on this route even smoother in the future.
He emphasised that Uttarakhand is a premier tourism state, attracting a large number of tourists from both within the country and abroad every year. Given this, the government is striving to improve road infrastructure and traffic management systems to ensure that no one has to face any inconvenience.
The Chief Minister also issued directives to the BRO (Border Roads Organisation) to expeditiously repair the roads falling under its jurisdiction. He emphasised that all agencies must work in coordination so that all necessary arrangements can be put in place before the commencement of the pilgrimage season.
