Dehradun, 6 May: BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today alleged that the recent fraud case involving a “fake PA” of a senior Congress leader and the alleged monetary dealings for party tickets and positions within the Congress are the result of internal factionalism. He stated that the episode reflects deep-rooted infighting within the party rather than an isolated incident.

Speaking informally with the media, Chauhan reminded that Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal has indicated that a conspiracy had been underway against him for nearly one-and-a-half months. Godiyal had stated that the accused, currently in police custody, had also spoken about efforts to remove the state president and about a possible “settlement”, suggesting an internal struggle for leadership within the party.

Referring to these developments, Chauhan observed that the Congress president’s own statements make it evident that a power struggle is ongoing within the organisation. He described reports of alleged buying and selling of party tickets and even talk of “supari” to remove a party president as unfortunate and deeply concerning for democratic norms.

Chauhan further asserted that, if the Congress president is aware of the people or the leaders behind the alleged conspiracy, as indicated in his remarks, then in the interest of transparency and higher political standards, he should make public these names. The BJP leader said that the accused has reportedly disclosed details to the police, and therefore there should be no hesitation in revealing who was allegedly promoting such practices.

Chauhan further alleged that the Congress has had a long association with practices of political bargaining and that previous accusations of ticket sales within the party had also surfaced from within its own ranks. He noted that the current revelations, including claims of advance payments for party positions to a purported “fake PA” linked to Rahul Gandhi, raise serious questions about the internal functioning and ethical standards of the party.

Chauhan also claimed that such developments indicate a decline in political morality within the Congress, alleging that party members appear willing to resort to dubious means, including dealing with fraudulent individuals, in attempts to influence organisational positions. Chauhan also criticised what he described as a lack of response or concern from party leadership, both at the state level in Dehradun and at the national level in Delhi, despite the gravity of the allegations.

Chauhan alleged that practices such as advance booking of election tickets and internal power struggles are detrimental to democratic values and claimed that such tendencies have contributed to the erosion of public trust in the Congress.
