Innova falls into gorge near Devprayag, rescue teams recover 2 bodies, 1 injured

Devprayag, 2 Jun: A tragic road accident occurred on the Rishikesh–Badrinath National Highway near Devprayag this morning when an Innova car, returning from the Char Dham Yatra, lost control and plunged nearly 200 metres into a deep gorge before being swept away by the strong currents of the Alaknanda River. The vehicle, bearing registration number UK 08 TA 5433, was carrying pilgrims from Rajasthan. According to the eyewitnesses, the car was travelling at high speed and broke through the crash barrier before tumbling into the gorge and disappearing into the river. The accident took place around 10.30 a.m. this morning between Sainik Hotel and Pant village in the Chakasa area, leaving the bystanders in shock as the vehicle vanished into the waters.

On receiving the information regarding the accident, the Police, SDRF, water police and the revenue officials rushed to the spot and launched a massive search and rescue operation. Teams from Srinagar, Byasi and Dhalwala have been deployed, including deep‑diving units, to trace the vehicle and its occupants. So far, one seriously injured person has been rescued and referred to hospital, while two bodies have been recovered. The search continues for other passengers feared missing. Authorities have appealed to the public not to crowd the accident site and to cooperate with rescue operations. The administration has assured that further details will be shared as more information becomes available.
