Dehradun, 12 Jun: District Magistrate (DM) Dr Ashish Chauhan has directed the district officials to prioritise the identification and treatment of children suffering from serious and congenital diseases whose families are unable to bear medical expenses. He instructed the District Programme Officer of the Child Development Department to conduct a special campaign for children up to six years of age, and the Chief Education Officer (CEO) to undertake similar efforts for children and adolescents between six and eighteen years.

Dr Chauhan emphasised that no child in the district should be deprived of treatment due to financial hardship and asked officials to ensure timely identification and reporting so that medical care can be provided without delay.

The DM also stated that treatment of identified children will be carried out free of cost under the National Child Health Programme (RBSK) of the Government of India. For illnesses not covered under RBSK, other financial resources and the Rifle Fund will be utilised to provide necessary medical facilities. So far, twelve children below six years of age suffering from serious ailments have been identified by the Child Development Department, and the process of providing treatment and medical assistance has already begun.

Chauhan reiterated that safeguarding the health and future of children is among the highest priorities of the administration. He directed the District Programme Officer and Chief Education Officer to accelerate identification through extensive surveys conducted by schools, Anganwadi centres and field staff, and to coordinate with the Health Department to ensure immediate treatment. The DM also stressed that this initiative is not merely an administrative exercise but a humanitarian responsibility towards the most vulnerable section of society. The administration is committed to reaching every child in need and ensuring that no life is compromised due to economic difficulties.

The residents have also been urged to inform the nearest Anganwadi centre, school, health centre or relevant department if they come across any child suffering from a serious or congenital illness whose family cannot afford treatment, so that timely medical care and assistance can be provided.
