Assam University Prof presents paper on Human-Elephant Conflict at Oxford

New Delhi, 18 Jun: Professor Parthankar Choudhury from the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science, Assam University, Silchar, participated in a four-day international conference ‘Pathways Europe: Human Dimensions of Wildlife’ held at Oxford Brookes University, UK, on 14–17 June, 2026.

At the conference, Prof. Choudhury presented a research paper, titled “Comparative assessment of two strategies to mitigate Human Elephant Conflicts in Assam, India”, evaluating methods to reduce human-elephant conflict in the Suang Reserve Forest in Nagaon, Assam.

“Pathways Europe is a part of the Human Dimensions of Wildlife conference and training. Founded by Prof Michael J Manfredo and Prof Jerry Vaske (Colorado State University, USA), this programme is designed to address the myriad of problems that arise during sustainable and healthy coexistence between humans and wildlife. Its objective is to increase effectiveness in the field of human dimensions of wildlife management, especially in the area of critical wildlife conservation efforts.

Among other topics, this international conference discussed the connection between wildlife and nature; wildlife as an inspiration or model for art; agriculture, food production, and wildlife; wildlife and leisure; and human-wildlife conflict and coexistence.
