Drug trafficker held in Piran Kaliyar with 18 gm of smack worth Rs 4 lakhs

Roorkee, 22 Jun: Piran Kaliar police in Haridwar district have arrested a drug trafficker during a checking operation and have recovered 18.50 grams of smack from his possession, valued at more than Rs 4 lakhs in the market. The accused was reportedly engaged in illegal trafficking to feed his addiction and also earn quick money. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and begun tracing his network.

The arrest is stated to be a part of Operation Prahar being carried out under the supervision of SSP Haridwar Navneet Singh Bhullar against the criminal elements across the district. It was shared by the police that during the checking drive on Abdal Sahib Road in Imlikheda, police apprehended the accused and seized 18.50 grams of smack worth Rs 4.62 lakhs. On interrogation, the accused identified himself as Ankush, aged 22, son of Fakirchand, resident of village Pirpura under Kotwali Mangalore police station. He confessed that he works as a welder and has turned to drug trafficking to earn large sums and meet his own expenses on narcotics. Police have registered a case against him under the NDPS Act and are preparing to present him before the court.

SP Rural Shekhar Chandra Suyal stated that one accused had been arrested with 18.50 grams of illegal smack and reiterated that drug traffickers would not be spared under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, in a separate action, Pathri police in Laksar cracked a series of bike thefts by arresting two notorious vehicle thieves and recovering six stolen motorcycles on their identification. This breakthrough is being seen as a major success in curbing vehicle thefts in the region. On 21 June, two cases of bike theft were registered at Pathri police station. Taking the matter seriously, the SSP Haridwar directed immediate recovery of stolen bikes and arrest of the culprits. Pathri police inspected the crime scenes, examined CCTV footage and other digital evidence, and acting on a tip-off, arrested two suspects on the route to Ghunti Chowk. On interrogation, the accused led police to the recovery of six stolen motorcycles.

Pathri police identified the arrested men as Sudhanshu, son of Pawan, and Manit, son of Shyam Singh, residents of village Dhanpura under Pathri police station in Haridwar district. Cases have been registered against them and they have been charge-sheeted. Police said investigations are continuing into other suspects and the wider network involved in vehicle thefts.
