DM reviews facilities at Nari Niketan, Juvenile Home and ‘Kishori Grih’

Dehradun, 25 Jun: District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan inspected Nari Niketan, the Juvenile Home and Kishori Grih at Kedarpuram here today and reviewed the facilities being provided to women and children residing there. He examined arrangements related to security, health services, sanitation and rehabilitation activities, and issued necessary directions to officials for further strengthening them.
During the inspection, the DM also interacted with the children at the Juvenile Home to understand their daily routine, education, health and other requirements. He instructed the District Probation Officer to initiate a basic learning programme to improve the educational and intellectual capacity of the children. He also directed that a detailed profile of every child residing in the Juvenile Home be prepared and submitted.
Chauhan emphasised that regular counselling and health check‑ups must be ensured for each child to support their mental and physical development. He stressed the need for effective rehabilitation and personality development activities to be conducted in the institutions.
At Nari Niketan and Kishori Grih, the DM reviewed the security arrangements and directed the security arrangements be further strengthened. He said that regular health examinations of the girls and women residing there should be carried out and their needs and their problems be addressed with sensitivity. He also inspected sanitation arrangements in the premises and instructed the officials to maintain a safe and hygienic environment. He stated that providing a better atmosphere for children and women in these institutions is a priority of the administration and that negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
It may be reminded here that, presently, Nari Niketan houses 160 women, the Juvenile Home has 7 boys and the Kishori Grih accommodates 12 girls. Among those present during the inspection included Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Namita Mamgain, Chief Medical Officer Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, Chief Education Officer Vinod Kumar Dhaundiyal, member PN Johar, District Probation Officer Meena Bisht, Circle Officer (CO) Vandana Verma and other officials.
