DEHRADUN, 27 Jun: Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation, BJP worker Naveen Thakur has adopted cycling as his regular mode of transport. So far, he has covered over 4,000 kilometres to spread the message of energy conservation. His efforts received encouragement and appreciation from Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and former BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, who met him at Jolly Grant Airport on Saturday.
Naveen arrived at the airport on his bicycle where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, State General Secretary Kundan Parihar and State Media In‑charge Manveer Chauhan were also present. Nadda praised his initiative and offered to him best wishes and blessings. Nadda also observed that cycling is not only a means of saving fuel but also contributes to environmental protection, better health and reduced traffic pressure. He noted that Naveen’s campaign has inspired many youths to use bicycles for their daily short‑distance tasks, sending a positive message across society. He added that if more people adopt cycling for short journeys, the country can simultaneously achieve fuel savings, environmental conservation and healthier lifestyles, thereby reinforcing the Prime Minister’s message of “energy conservation and national interest.”
Sharing details of his campaign, Naveen said that after the Prime Minister’s appeal on May 10, highlighting India’s dependence on imported energy and urging citizens to use petrol and diesel judiciously, he resolved to use a bicycle for all local party work. He regularly cycles between Sahaspur, Vikasnagar, Dakpathar and Dehradun offices, covering nearly 70 to 80 kilometres daily, including the 37‑kilometre distance from his home to the BJP State office at Balbir Road. For longer organisational responsibilities in districts such as Uttarkashi, Purola, Tehri, Kotdwar and Champawat, he uses a two‑wheeler to avoid unnecessary reliance on four‑wheelers and reduce fuel consumption. Naveen’s commitment has turned into a symbolic campaign for conservation, discipline and sustainable living, resonating strongly with the Prime Minister’s vision.
