GST Day celebrated on the theme “Simplified Taxation, Empowered India”

Dehradun, 1 Jul: The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate, Dehradun, celebrated GST Day 2026 at the IRDT Auditorium here, today, to commemorate the successful completion of nine years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The programme was organised as part of the nationwide GST Day celebrations under the theme “Simplified Taxation, Empowered India”, highlighting the progress made in creating a simpler, more transparent and taxpayer-friendly indirect tax system while promoting ease of doing business and strengthening cooperative federalism.

Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary (Finance), Government of Uttarakhand, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he described GST as a historic reform that has successfully translated the vision of “One Nation, One Tax, One Market” into reality.

Referring to the vision of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he emphasised the importance of “Simplification and Solution” in strengthening the relationship between taxpayers and tax administrators. He urged all stakeholders to continue working with the same spirit of dedication, promptness and commitment that has marked the implementation of GST over the past nine years.

In his welcome address, Dr Ashok Kumar Pandey, Commissioner, CGST Commissionerate, Dehradun, highlighted the excellent coordination between the Central and State GST administrations in revenue collection. He appreciated the invaluable contribution of taxpayers through voluntary tax compliance towards nation-building and revenue augmentation.

Amand Shah, Technical Member, and Rajesh Jain, Judicial Member, GST Appellate Tribunal, Dehradun, also addressed the gathering and informed taxpayers about the commencement of the Tribunal’s functioning, encouraging them to file their GST appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal, Dehradun.

During the programme, distinguished taxpayers including M/s UltraTech Cement Ltd, Roorkee, M/s Nestlé India Ltd, Rudrapur, and M/s BHEL, Haridwar, were felicitated for their exemplary tax compliance, significant contribution to nation-building and outstanding role in revenue generation. Departmental officers who demonstrated exceptional performance were also honoured with commendation certificates and awards.

The cultural segment featured performances by senior artists of JMS Sangeet Academy led by Laxmi Mishra. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Shriya Gupta, Joint Commissioner, who expressed gratitude to all officers, stakeholders, representatives of trade and industry, and members of the media for their active participation and support. The programme commenced with the National Song and concluded with the National Anthem.
