Dehradun, 6 Jul: Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) distributed monthly nutrition kits to 13 tuberculosis (TB) patients adopted under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) during a programme held at the Lok Bhawan, here, on Monday. On the occasion, he interacted personally with the patients, enquired about their well-being, and encouraged them to adhere to their medication, maintain a nutritious diet, and follow a healthy lifestyle throughout their treatment.
The Governor said that eliminating tuberculosis is not solely the responsibility of the Health Department but a collective responsibility of society. He emphasised that public participation, awareness, timely treatment, and proper nutrition are essential to effectively control the disease. He appealed to citizens to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards building a TB-free society. He added that if every capable citizen becomes a Ni-kshay Mitra by supporting the treatment and nutritional needs of one TB patient, the campaign to eliminate tuberculosis would gain greater momentum.
It is worth noting that all 79 TB patients previously adopted by the Governor have successfully completed treatment and recovered from the disease. Continuing this important initiative, he has now adopted 13 more TB patients, who were provided with monthly nutrition kits during the programme. With this, the total number of TB patients adopted by the Governor as a Ni-kshay Mitra has increased to 92.
Senior Medical Officer Dr Mahavir Singh, Dr AK Singh, along with other officials and Health Department personnel, were present on the occasion.
