Pithoragarh, 10 Jul: As part of the Harela Week celebrations, 130 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological Kumaon conducted a special plantation drive in the general area of Banani in close coordination with the Village Panchayat, local civilians, and enthusiastic participation from school children. The initiative reflects the Battalion’s unwavering commitment towards environmental conservation, ecological restoration, and community participation.

The plantation drive witnessed active involvement of villagers, students, Battalion personnel, and local stakeholders, reinforcing the message of collective responsibility towards preserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. Participants planted a variety of indigenous saplings while spreading awareness on the importance of afforestation and environmental stewardship.

During the Harela Week celebrations, the Battalion has undertaken an ambitious target of planting and sowing 70,000 saplings, with the campaign culminating on 16 July 2026, coinciding with the auspicious festival of Harela.

To mark the grand finale, a Mega Plantation Drive has been planned at Lelu Village, Pithoragarh, on 16 July. The event will be conducted in collaboration with the State Forest Department, Civil Administration, local civilians, school children, CAPF, the Indian Army, volunteer organisations, and other stakeholders. The event aims to achieve the Battalion’s plantation target while promoting a spirit of environmental responsibility and public participation.

Several eminent civil and military dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion, highlighting the shared commitment of all stakeholders towards building a greener and more sustainable Uttarakhand.

Through such initiatives, 130 Infantry Battalion (TA) Ecological Kumaon continues to play a pivotal role in ecological conservation and strengthening the bond between the Armed Forces and the local community through meaningful environmental action.
