Dehradun, 10 Jul: A high-level committee meeting regarding the development of Tehri Lake as a global destination was held at the Secretariat on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary stated that the MD, THDC, and the District Magistrate, Tehri, should be included as special invitees in the meetings related to the Tehri Lake Global Destination. Furthermore, the Tehri Lake Project should be given a catchy name that resonates with the public and is easy to pronounce.
The Chief Secretary stated that, in addition to developing Tehri as a global destination, the Lake Project should be developed as a destination based on maximum renewable energy. He also stated that the possibility of installing solar plants to power the STPs being constructed for the area should be explored.
The Chief Secretary also stated that some villages around Tehri Lake should be developed as traditional villages, incorporating themes of Uttarakhand’s crafts, culture, and heritage. He directed that such model villages should be linked to livelihoods and involve local stakeholders. He said that this concept should be implemented for all tourist destinations.
The Chief Secretary directed that complete arrangements be made for the operation and maintenance of each property constructed under the scheme. He urged that income-generating activities be incorporated into the plan by involving stakeholders. He directed that a comprehensive action plan be prepared for boating and jetty operations on Tehri Lake, based on scientific studies, by assessing the lake’s capacity. He stated that work could be done in phases, but the entire plan should be prepared at one time.
The Chief Secretary recommended that the museum’s theme be developed keeping in mind the historical significance of the Tehri region. He suggested that a 3D model of Old Tehri could be included, including the royal history, folk art, and folk culture of Old Tehri.
Principal Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretaries Dilip Jawalkar, Dr V Shanmugam, and Dhiraj Singh Garbyal, along with other senior officials, were present on the occasion.
