DEHRADUN, 18 Jul: Following the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Dehradun district over the coming days, the district administration has gone into full alert mode. In particular, with a red alert declared for July 20 , District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan has directed all the departmental heads, nodal officers and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to maintain the highest level of vigilance and ensure complete preparedness to deal effectively with any emergency situation.
As per the instructions of the DM, the entire disaster management and emergency response mechanism in the district has been fully activated. All the officials concerned have been asked to remain continuously present in their respective areas, monitor the situation closely and ensure necessary advance preparations to tackle possible natural calamities. According to the Meteorological Department, orange alerts have been issued for July 18 and 19, a red alert for July 20 and again an orange alert for July 21 for Dehradun district, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, waterlogging, landslides and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
The DM has directed that all the departmental nodal officers and QRTs remain active round the clock during this period. Sensitive locations prone to landslides and waterlogging must have adequate manpower, machinery, JCBs, relief and rescue equipment deployed in advance so that immediate relief and rescue operations can be initiated in case of any emergency. He has made it clear that any information regarding untoward incidents or disasters must be promptly reported to the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC). All the related departments have been instructed to maintain close coordination and continuous monitoring of the situation to ensure swift and effective action, thereby minimising loss of life and property.
The DM has also appealed to the public to take the warnings issued by the Meteorological Department seriously, avoid unnecessary movement towards rivers, streams and landslide‑prone areas, and extend full cooperation by following the directions issued by the district administration during any emergency.
