Dehradun, 23 Jul: The state government will commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas as Shaurya Diwas on 26 July, with a special tribute run organised in Dehradun a day earlier. District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan informed the media today that the ‘Run for Kargil Heroes’ will be held on 25 July to honour the martyrs of Kargil and to instil patriotism, national unity and respect for soldiers among the public, particularly the youth. He shared that the memorial and tribute run will witness participants from various categories including open men and women above 18 years, school students from classes 9 to 12, college and university students, ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and dependants of martyrs, NCC, NSS, Scouts and Guides, differently abled persons, and senior citizens above 60 years.

The programme will begin at 7 a.m. on 25 July with registration and distribution of Shaurya Diwas T-shirts and caps at Shaurya Sthal, Chidbagh, followed by floral tributes to Kargil martyrs at 7.45 a.m. The run will be flagged off at 8 a.m. by the chief guest and will conclude at Gandhi Park at 9.30 a.m., covering the route from Shaurya Sthal via Rajpur Road. Winners in different categories will be felicitated by the Department of Soldiers’ Welfare during the main Shaurya Diwas ceremony on 26 July.

The DM has directed the police and traffic department to ensure security, parking and traffic arrangements along the route. For smooth execution of the event, the District Soldiers’ Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer has been designated as nodal officer, the Chief Education Officer as in-charge officer and the District Sports Officer as overall nodal officer. The administration has also appealed to ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, students of schools and colleges, police and security forces, officials and employees of various departments, youth organisations, voluntary groups and citizens to participate actively so that the collective gratitude of the nation towards the immortal heroes of Kargil can be expressed in unity.
