CM flags off ‘Run for Kargil Heroes’ marathon

DEHRADUN, 25 Jul: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday flagged off the ‘Run for Kargil Heroes’ marathon organised at Shaurya Sthal, Chidbagh, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. At the memorial, the Chief Minister laid a wreath and paid heartfelt homage to the martyrs, saluting their supreme sacrifice in the defence of the nation.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Dhami stressed that Kargil Vijay Diwas symbolises the indomitable courage, valour and unwavering dedication of the Indian Army towards the nation. He recalled that in 1999, Indian soldiers had displayed extraordinary bravery under adverse conditions, safeguarding the motherland and demonstrating the unmatched spirit of the Army before the world. He emphasised that the country would always remain indebted to its brave soldiers and martyrs for their sacrifice.
Dhami further observed that Uttarakhand is known as the land of the brave, with many soldiers from the state having enhanced the nation’s pride through their courage and supreme sacrifice in the Kargil War and other military operations. The state government, he claimed, is continuously working for the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their dependants, committed to protecting their honour and interests. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the ideals of the martyrs, contribute actively to nation-building and discharge their responsibilities towards the unity, integrity and security of the country with sincerity.
Among those present on the occasion included Sainik Kalyan Minister (Minister for Soldiers’ Welfare) Ganesh Joshi, a large number of ex-servicemen, youth, women and several dignitaries.
