DEHRADUN, 25 Jul: The dharna and the protest of the National Safai Karmachari Mazdoor Union at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) continue for the past six days over their demands. Recently, Union’s State president Chaudhary Naresh Ved, Municipal Corporation branch president Sunil Kumar alias Sonu Khairwal and Secretary Dheeraj Bharti met Ashok Verma, Vice‑Chairman of the State Backward Classes Welfare Council. A detailed discussion was held on the demands placed by the Union, with consensus reached on several points.
Later, Verma also met Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal at his office and discussed the Union’s demands, urging that an early solution be worked out. Subsequently, Verma himself reached the protest site and addressed the employees. He said, that Uttarakhand government is a government of employees, and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami considers the sanitation workers as part of his family, taking decisions from time to time in the interest of employees. He assured that the Chief Minister stands with them and that all genuine demands will be positively resolved soon.
Verma emphasised that problems are not solved through dharnas but through dialogue. He appealed to all to maintain restraint and uphold peace. He further said that the meeting of Union office‑bearers with Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal would certainly lead to a constructive solution.
