Mussoorie, 28 Jul: The havoc caused by incessant rain in Mussoorie was witnessed once again on Tuesday morning. Due to heavy rainfall, two massive trees and a retaining wall collapsed onto a house near ‘Bhandari Niwas’ on Spring Road. The incident damaged the roof, and debris entered the house. Fortunately, the occupants managed to stay safe, and there was no loss of life. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. Upon receiving the information, a fire department team immediately arrived at the scene and launched a relief and rescue operation. Fire personnel used wood cutters to cut and remove the two trees that had fallen on the roof, thereby averting the risk of further mishaps. Subsequently, the work of clearing the debris was also initiated.
Fire Officer Dheeraj Singh Tadiyal stated that the team reached the site promptly, assessed the situation, and took immediate action. Fire personnel Rakesh Kumar, Nitin Singh Chauhan, Abhishek Kukreji, and Devendra Malik played a crucial role in the operation. Shortly thereafter, a Forest Department team also arrived and inspected the damaged area. It was reported that the collapse of the retaining wall and the two trees onto Sunita Semwal’s house caused debris to fill the interior. While the building sustained damage, all family members remained safe. Local residents also assisted the administration in the relief efforts.
Upon learning of the incident, Municipal Council Chairperson Meera Saklani and local Councillor Pawan Thalwal visited the site. They met the affected family, assessed the damage, and instructed officials to expedite relief operations. Following the Chairperson’s directives, the process of clearing the debris began after the trees were removed. Meanwhile, a Naib Tehsildar representing the administration also arrived at the scene to inspect the site and assess the damage. Steps were initiated to provide assistance to the affected family in accordance with regulations.
