Rudrapur, 28 Jul: After the Dehradun rally of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress has now intensified its political activity in Kumaon. On 8 August, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will hold a public meeting at the Ramleela Ground in Haldwani. To ensure the success of the rally, senior Congress leaders today held a meeting at Swaraj Ashram to deliberate on the preparations and the organisational responsibilities for the event.

Following Rahul Gandhi’s rally, the Congress has shifted its focus to Kumaon. Kharge is now scheduled to reach Haldwani for the proposed gathering. Party leaders have accelerated the preparations for the event. The meeting at Swaraj Ashram was attended by Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal, Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh, election management committee chairman Harak Singh Rawat, former state president and CWC member Karan Mehra along with several legislators, office‑bearers and workers.

The leaders reportedly discussed the outline of the rally at Ramleela Ground, responsibilities of the party workers, the crowd management, the publicity and the organisational readiness. They claimed the rally would be among the largest political gatherings in Kumaon, with participation expected from across districts. According to party leaders, Kharge in his address is expected to raise issues such as the paper leaks, corruption, deteriorating law and order, rising crimes against women, unemployment, the state of health services and other matters of public interest. He is also expected to present the Congress’s stand on the policies of the Centre and the state government. The Party views Kharge’s rally as an opportunity to strengthen its organisation in Kumaon and sharpen its political strategy after Rahul Gandhi’s Dehradun event.
