Gov chairs Review Meeting of State Universities

Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 28 Jul: Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) chaired a review meeting of Vice-Chancellors of Uttarakhand’s state universities at the Lok Bhavan here on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the universities’ key achievements, challenges, research and innovation initiatives, and ongoing efforts to fill vacant academic and administrative positions.

Addressing the Vice-Chancellors, the Governor stressed that universities must ensure every graduate is equipped to meet the demands of industry, employment, entrepreneurship, and the challenges of the 21st century. He said the objective of universities should not be limited to awarding degrees but should focus on nurturing capable, confident, and nation-oriented young people who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of students’ moral education, mental health, and overall well-being. He urged universities to foster a positive and supportive academic environment that enables the holistic development of students.

Emphasising the need for a secure and credible examination system, the Governor directed universities to make effective use of modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI) at every stage of the examination process. He called for robust verification and re-verification mechanisms to ensure examinations remain completely leak-proof, error-free, and trustworthy.

He further stated that the identity of a university is defined not by its buildings but by its academic achievements, research, and innovation. He urged universities to improve their performance in NIRF and NAAC rankings by strengthening research, patents, innovation, quality infrastructure, and academic excellence.
