Dehradun, 7 Aug: Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan today chaired a review meeting at the Secretariat to examine skill development and employment schemes in detail. The meeting discussed ongoing programmes, training initiatives, employment and placement status and the future roadmap.
During the meeting the CS insisted that that the skill development programmes must be prepared in line with the present and future requirements of industries. He stressed that quality training should be provided according to the interests of youth and in line with the needs of local employment. He added that the trained youth must be linked with jobs and self-employment opportunities. Bardhan also directed that all the departments connected with skill development work together on a single platform to facilitate youth. He instructed the Secretary, Skill Development, to prepare a dashboard in consultation with the Bridge Commission and by involving all stakeholders, with the objective of making Uttarakhand a skill hub.
Secretary, Skill Development and Employment, C Ravishankar shared in the meeting that the ITIs in the state would be upgraded in collaboration with the school education, higher education, technical education and medical education, in line with industry standards. At present, 119 ITIs are functional, of which 90 have been mapped on the portal. Tata Technologies has already commenced short-term training courses in ITIs.
He further stated that to enable youth to secure jobs abroad, discussions have been held with three agencies to provide training at the Skill India International Centre as per global standards, including language proficiency and other essential skills. He added that private employers are being registered on the Rojgar Prayag portal, with 162 employers already onboarded, thereby offering employment opportunities to youth. Senior officers of the Employment Department were also present at the meeting.
