Dehradun, 12 Aug: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission schemes during a meeting held at the Secretariat here. The review focussed on financial status, the operational management, maintenance and the future planning. The meeting also discussed the advancement of water supply schemes, household tap water connections, verification processes, water quality, financial management and the regular functioning of schemes.
The CM directed the officials to ensure that the target of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ is achieved in full and that all the remaining eligible rural households are connected with taps within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasised that the success of the mission would not be measured merely by the number of connections but by the regular, adequate, safe and quality supply of drinking water to every household. Completed schemes must also undergo field verification.
Dhami also instructed that ongoing and pending drinking water schemes be completed in mission mode within the targeted deadlines and directed the district magistrates to coordinate with the departments to resolve the issues swiftly. He stressed that both the physical and financial progress of each scheme should be reviewed regularly.
The CM also laid special emphasis on the conservation and the rejuvenation of drinking water sources in hill areas, rainwater harvesting and recharge of the water sources. He stated that the mechanisms be developed in each district for quick resolution of the technical problems related to water supply and also permanent arrangements be ensured for the operation and the maintenance. He also ordered district-wise targets, timelines and accountability to be fixed, with responsibility assigned to implementing agencies and officers in cases of unnecessary delay.
It was informed at the meeting that, out of 16,555 schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state, 15,540 have been completed, reflecting an average progress of 92.46 per cent, while 1,015 schemes are still underway. Of the 14.48 lakh rural households, 14.20 lakh have already been provided tap connections. Verification of tap water supply has been completed in 9,796 villages out of 14,979.
Among those present at the meeting were Vice Chairman of the Infrastructure Monitoring Council Vishwas Dawar, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary, Drinking Water, Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Additional Secretaries Rohit Meena and Jharnna Kamthan and other senior officials from the departments concerned.
